Cincinnati.com’s John Erardi opined earlier today that Las Vegas 51′s manager and former New York Met Wally Backman would be an ideal candidate to fill the managerial void left by Dusty Baker. Erardi believes that Backman’s no-nonsense attitude and aggressive style of play is the perfect fit for a team that needs a fire lit underneath them.
The piece received widespread attention in both Mets and Cincinnati Reds circles, with MetsBlog reporting on the piece earlier today. The rumor has since performed a classic game of telephone and Twitter user Las Vegas 51′s Inside reported that Backman was set to interview for the job.
Wally Backman will interview for Reds managerial position .

Las Vegas 51′s Inside proceeded to cite that “Cincinnati newspapers” have reported that Backman will interview for the job, yet there isn’t a publication that has reported anything of the nature.
The only connection that Backman has with Cincinnati was the aforementioned editorial produced by John Erardi. While it’s possible that Backman could interview for the open position, no such formal offer has been publicly confirmed. If the reports are false, Backman has reportedly been offered a position within the Mets organization for the 2014 season and could choose to remain with the club.
